Developed from internal medicine, rheumatology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatic diseases, painful conditions, acute or chronic, of the musculoskeletal system. These can be inflammatory connective tissue and bone diseases, degenerative joint and spine diseases, metabolic diseases affecting the musculoskeletal system, diseases of the soft tissues, internal organs and nervous system.
In addition to autoimmune (rheumatoid polyarthritis, lupus, ankylosing spondylitis) or degenerative (gout, gonarthrosis) rheumatologic diseases, rheumatology also treats osteoporosis. Considered to be a serious health problem, osteoporosis is manifested by loss of bone strength, causing increased risk of fractures. The fragility of bones is often due to a lack of calcium, phosphorus and/or other minerals. Osteoporosis is common in women over the age of 65 and it affects hip bones, knuckles and/or spine bones.
Rheumatologic disorders are diagnosed with the help of paraclinical and imaging investigations: specific laboratory tests (doses of antigens, doses of antibodies), X-rays and bone scans, computed tomography densitometry.
We recommend that you make an appointment for a specialty consultation if you experience pain or joint swelling, muscle pain accompanied or not by a decrease in muscle strength, and also when rashes appear on the face or when they progress down the trunk. However, if it is a degenerative problem, it should be carefully monitored and a long-term treatment should be instituted. Your rheumatologist will follow up on the long-term progression of the disease and will guide you in terms of symptomatic treatment with immediate action and in terms of causal treatment, in the medium and long term.
At VERONIKI Life - Clinic for Integrative Medicine, our physicians prevent and treat such disorders by using mainly complementary medicine so that you can regain your full health.
